I hate to speculate but…

Oliver is a university professor, married with two sons, who once had a relationship with a man named Elio.

Aciman is a university professor, married with three sons, who dedicated cmbyn to a man named Albio. 

I’m not saying that the dedication to Albio, Alma de mi vida, reminded me of Oliver’s inscription to Elio, cor cordium. I’m not saying that this novel is to Aciman and Albio what the postcard of Monet’s berm is to Oliver and Elio. I’m not saying that Aciman and Albio found the stars. Not at all. I would never say that. It’s none of my business 👀

I always see Aciman as Papa Perlman, who says he’d almost had what Elio and Oliver had, but something always held him back…

hmm, and elio and oliver’s story is what he wished had happened…
