I have some serious issues with Call Me By Your Name, so here goes. Firstly, the author of the book is straight (x). The article I’ve linked to says that the author has stated that he had never been in a gay relationship, which raises some red flags for me. Secondly, the age difference. This is the biggest red flag in the story. Timothée Chalamet is portraying a seventeen year old boy, Armie Hammer is portraying a twenty four year old man. This is technically pedophilia, whether the fans of this movie want to admit it or not. Another thing that’s irksome about this is that it normalizes that type of relationship, a purely sexual relationship between a boy and a much older man, and that type of relationship is not okay. Overall, my biggest issue with this film is that it’s a poor attempt to normalize gay relationships, rather than helping, it’s giving straight people a negative view of gay people and also harming young gay boys who now think this type of power imbalance in a relationship is okay.
andré aciman never referred to himself as straight; he’s married to a woman, yet for him, if i remember correctly, sexuality is something fluid and he doesn’t like to use labels, so please don’t put one on him. also just because someone hasn’t engaged in a (physical) relationship with a man doesn’t mean they never wanted to or that they have never been attracted to men.
aciman dedicated call me by your name “to albio, alma de mi vida” and i think it’s safe to say that albio wasn’t the name of his dog. 😉
please stop misusing the word paedophilia and inform yourself about what it actually means. trivializing such a serious, dangerous disorder is very harmful to the victims. >_<
“a purely sexual relationship between a boy and a much older man,”
if i hadn’t guessed it before, this confirms that you haven’t even watched the movie. also “much older man” lol now i don’t know how old you are, of course, but 24 is still a very young man, believe me.

i have never seen straight people make these kind of connections (gay men=predators) after seeing this film. your community is actually hurting itself by posts like this with the constant mentioning of gay men/ predators.

two wonderful movies 😀
– I have loved you for the last time. Is it a video?
So I haven’t picked up a pen in about six years, but this boy and this movie filled me with such emotion, I needed an outlet.
Also, shading? I don’t know her.
