Every time i rewatch cmbyn i get about 10 minutes into the movie, to the moment where Oliver asks what Elio does for fun, and Elio says “wait for summer to end”. The dramatic irony of that single statement, in light of where the story eventually goes, makes me seriously debate whether my heart is strong enough to watch the rest of the movie. Sometimes I’m literally not ready and stop the film right there.

Oliver: Well, you seem to know more than anyone else around here.
Elio: Well, if you only knew how little I know about the things that matter.
Oliver: What “things that matter”?
Elio: You know what things.
Oliver: Why are you telling me this?
Elio: Because I thought you should know.
Oliver: Because you thought I should know?
Elio: Because I wanted you to know.
